Devil May Cry 5

Devil May Cry 5

By all accounts, this "revival" of DMC should've been a 5-dog breeze, but Capcom made a few weird choices. First, let's get it out of the way, 2013's DmC (that was the title) "reboot" wasn't bad, like the internet would have you believe, it just was missing that... flair? I guess. This is a Devil May Cry game. It has that flair. But it's like the bad parts if Devil May Cry. You start out the first half of the game playing as "Nero," the protagonist from Devil May Cry 4. I do not like this guy. He plays weird and feels clunky. Then you play a few missions as this new Kylo Ren looking dude. He can't attack directly because he has a cane, so you use these spirit animals to fight. I do not like this guy. Then halfway through you finally get Dante. I like this guy. The game is awesome. It feels like Devil may Cry.

The game really gives you some variety here. Dante has multilple fighting styles and weapons you can switch between any time to do SSSick ass combos. For the last part of the game, you basically just play Dante. Now if they'd made the whole game like this, it would've fucking owned. The final showdown is, of fucking course, Vergil, Dante's evil brother. And you have this epic 1v1 fight with him where you have to use every move at your disposal to win. And then immediately after that they make you do the same exact fight with Nero. It's like a chocolate chip cookie with raisins. Some bites are good, some bits are bad, but then the last cookie is all raisins and no chocolate chips, and leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

I will add one more thing though... this game uses the RE engine Capcom made for Resident Evil 7 and it's insanely good looking. Like it has no business looking this polished.
