Octopath Traveler

Octopath Traveler

I actually really really like this game. I mean look at it. The art style is gorgeous. It looks like an SNES game! The sprite work is really detailed and there's a lot of cool little effects with depth of field and bloom that make it feel like you're playing a modern remake of a classic. It's got a very good battle system, where you have to exploit enemy weaknesses to "break" them and deal maximum damage.

I had a lot of fun with it, but I dropped it around 25 hours out of 50 because it was getting a bit grindy and repetitive. The gist of it is there are 8 characters and you can do their stories in any order (Octopath, get it? Fucking stupid). The problem is only half the stories are interesting and also, despite having a party of 8 people their stories don't really intertwine and they shallowly interact with each other. I was disappointed by that aspect, but I might go back and finish this game some day, we'll see.
